All About Normal Heights
Normal Heights is an urban neighborhood located in central San Diego. The boundaries include I-8 to the north, El Cajon Boulevard to the south, I-805 to the west, and I-15 to the east. The area was named for the San Diego Normal School, a college that was the forerunner to San Diego State University. Bertram J. Carteri discovered this area in 1916 and began to develop Normal Heights.

Normal Heights homes are typically more affordable than its adjacent neighbor Kensington. Homes in both areas exhibit the charming Craftsman and Spanish colonial styles that are adored by their residents. Normal Heights is known for being a very walkable neighborhood with restaurants, coffee houses, antique shops, and book shops surrounding the area. One of the most popular coffee houses includes Lestat’s, which is located on Adams Avenue, is a short walk from many Normal Heights homes. This coffee shop highlights several talented local musicians every night, and best of all, it’s open to all visitors 24 hours everyday!

Normal Heights is also known for holding huge festivals that include the entire county, such as, The Adams Avenue Roots Festival, The Adams Avenue Street Fair, and Art Around Adams. All of these events serve great food & recognize local artists &Â musicians as well as those traveling to showcase for the county. These are great events to attend with friends & family.

Like most of the surrounding area, Normal Heights is very diverse and welcomes all residents. The neighborhood has a communal vibe that makes everyone feel comfortable in their homes. There is even an organic garden, Vera House Community Garden, which houses 11 plots and a communal herb plot for residents of Normal Heights.
