North Park, San Diego is a lively and artistic community located in the San Diego County. It lies north of Balboa Park, south of University Heights, east of Hillcrest, and west of City Heights. It was founded in 1893 by James Monroe Hartley and is known for its mixed architectural styles of home and apartments.

North Park homes
North Park homes display a range of different architectural structures. Neighborhoods between Balboa Park and University Ave have attractive craftsman style homes that were designed by renowned builder David Owen Dryden. The craftsman, or the “California bungalow” style are the most desirable of North Park homes. Home buyers love the warmth of the hardwood floors and quaint built-ins that are typical of the style. The bungalows are interspersed with charming Spanish style stucco homes with red clay tile roofs.

Neighborhoods between University Ave and El Cajon contain many apartments, condominiums and townhouses. Like the homes, North Park apartments vary in style. There are older 70’s style, garden or courtyard style as well as newer Venetian inspired condos. The variety and affordable prices make North Park a popular area for renters. The abundance of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance contributes to its appeal.

North Park has many independent neighborhood businesses. The restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques found on 30th Street and University Avenue are often owned and operated by North Park residents. North Park is probably best known for Ray Street, which contains several art galleries & street music that pedestrians may enjoy as they walk down the district. On every 2nd Saturday of the month, “Ray at Night†welcomes everyone from all ages to enjoy a gallery walk that exhibits modern art by local & professional artists. North Park is a fit for everyone, it accommodates people of all ages, races, incomes, and cultures. North Park residents are happy to identify with the community’s independent, artistic spirit.
